Senior Technology Transfer Engineer - Smart Grids
West Sussex – £42,333 - £65K per annum
Our client is a blue chip utility business with a firm commitment to the development of Smart Grid technology and future network upgrades. They are seeking to grow this function by bolstering their Future Networks team. This is a key role & your principal accountability's can be outlined as follows:
·You will be working with the Technology Innovation & Co-ordination Manager to review the R&D innovations reaching maturity and to initiate new projects where gaps are identified.
·Articulating priorities based on current business pressures and the future shape of the next price control
·Providing early input to R&D projects in which development of equipment is considered, to ensure that manufacturers are aware of the appropriate specifications and standards which must be met (whether BS, IEC specifications etc)
·Developing a programme of implementation activities to ensure that R&D results are developed into full and final solutions. This is likely to span aspects of new plant, network operational policy, IT architecture and operational telecoms
·Representing the programme to senior management of the company
·Co-ordinating this programme with Asset Management, Network Operations and Control, Operational Telecomms, IT, and business change.
·Resourcing this programme within your team and taking lead responsibility for a number of areas, in each case:
-Assessing current practice and standards and identifying areas for high impact
-Providing technical assurance to concepts at early stage of development within the R&D portfolio managed by Future Networks
-Building and achieving agreement on pragmatic, achievable plans for impacting our performance, whilst fully recognising the legacy installed base
-Developing policy and standards (typically Engineering Instructions) and associated materials
-Achieving sign-off on policy from the authorized business units.
-You will be directing the efforts of Standards Development Engineers in your team; in particular ensuring that plans are in place and are being followed to deliver all the necessary materials for the standard to be used as a "finished product"
-Ensuring that implementation and take-up of previously delivered solutions is continually monitored
-Be able participate in and potentially initiation of both internal and industry technical working groups
-You should be responsible for project governance and audit responsibilities for the standards development team
-Identifying internal improvement activities required within the Future Networks business unit and taking ownership of their resolution
-Responsibility for safety of staff by ensuring necessary training has been undertaken and use of staff with company-approved competencies
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
-The candidate will bring a good record in having set policy with respect to a significant asset group or area of operational policy
-Where they may have been regarded as a specialist to date, the candidate will demonstrate the ability to translate their experiences and recognise the common elements in standards setting ·MEng or equivalent in Electrical Engineering
·CEng or expecting to achieve CEng within 18 months
·Understanding of network design and operation at all voltage levels
·Understands the principles of protection design
·Experience in managing activities as projects, in particular the ability to clearly define the scope of an activity, success criteria, and the risks facing it
·Good organizational skills to manage a programme of activities
·Strong interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with a wide range of internal and external contacts including asset management and field staff
·Familiarity with cost-benefit analysis
